Congress Submits Memorandum to Prime Minister, demands details of the Rs. 10 billion Spent in COVID-19 Response
The Nepali Congress has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, as per a decision by the party’s Central Working Committee on Monday which had concluded that the government had completely failed in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Congress team led by party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel submitted the memorandum to Oli on Wednesday afternoon.
In its 12-point memorandum, the party has sought to know the details of the Rs1. 0 billion the government claims it has spent for Covid-19 response.
The Congress party had raised the same issue in Parliament as well. Oli, who was present in the House earlier on Wednesday to respond to lawmakers’ concerns, however, rebuffed the main opposition’s demand, saying “this is not the time to worry about the government’s expenditure.”
According to the Congress, the government has not been able to justify its response to Covid-19 despite spending Rs. 10 billion.
Congress leaders Gopal Man Shrestha, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Balkrishna Khand and Ramesh Lekhak had accompanied Poudel to Baluwatar to submit the memorandum to the Prime Minister.
