Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the government has devalued his role in the construction of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project.

Talking to News Agency Nepal on Tuesday, Mahat said that the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project was started on his own initiative when he was the Energy Minister 10 years ago. He said that he had canceled the contract with the contractor who was not working at that time and assigned the task to the Nepal Army.

He said – ‘Upper Tamakoshi when I was the energy minister 10 years ago today. In that case, it has moved forward. Until then, it was uncertain who would invest in it. There was no road connected. There was no talk of signing a contract without paving the way. The contractors were allowed to build the road, they had been fighting for years. By making a single decision, this landslide will not explode without the involvement of the army, the road will not reach there, the contract will not be signed until it is signed, the army will take over, the army will take over, connect the road and then sign the contract. ‘

He said that the government has decided to invest Rs 11 billion on its own initiative. He said that the cost of Nepal Telecom, Nepal Provident Fund and Citizens Investment Fund was estimated at Rs 34 billion at that time. He said that the work could not be completed on time due to delay in its construction. Though the cost will not be more than Rs 48-50 billion, the cost has been increased due to delay and compromise, said Mahat.

Though he has contributed to the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, Mahat has complained that it has not been evaluated.
